NRDC produced a good article on the importance of biogas as a source of renewable energy. While we recognize the importance of biogas produced from anaerobic digestion, we like to point out that AD is designed for methane production and creates a by-product of digestate. Good news from our point of view is the solution presented by steam / CO2 reforming technology to solve the digestate problem, especially when there are insufficient markets to absorb the amount being created now and in the future as AD adoption increases. Steam / CO2 reforming converts the digestate to hydrogen gas – much friendlier for the environment. In the process it removes the excess digestate from the site daily with no transportation needed to take it to the field.
